Seeking thrills? Ratanga Junction Amusement Park was once the place to be. It opened in December 1998. It was part of the Century City development in Cape Town. The park boasted a tropical island theme. This whimsical theme was reflected in its logo and the variety of wet rides. Ratanga Junction was home to over 30 attractions. These ranged from kid-friendly carousels to adrenaline-pumping rollercoasters. The star attraction was the Cobra. This towering rollercoaster launched riders from a height of 32 meters. It reached speeds close to 100 kilometers per hour. Imagine the rush as you flew along the 780 meters of track, suspended beneath the rails. For those who preferred a milder thrill, there was the Diamond Devil Run. This runaway mine train rollercoaster offered a tamer, yet still exciting, experience. The park also featured water rides like Monkey Falls and Crocodile Gorge. Be prepared to get soaked on these exhilarating plunges. Sadly, Ratanga Junction struggled financially from the start. Despite its popularity, the park closed its doors in May 2018. The land was redeveloped into residential apartments, offices, and the tranquil Ratanga Park. The Cobra found a new home at Lost Island Theme Park in Iowa, where it thrills riders as the Nokupo Air Coaster.
