Sojovice, a village nestled on the banks of the Jizera River, holds a fascinating history. Its original name, Sovojovice, derived from the personal name Sovoja, meaning “the village of Sovoja’s people”. The village stands amidst the Central Elbe Table, a flat landscape that stretches across the Czech Republic. Sojovice is a small village even today with around 600 inhabitants. It is situated about 24 kilometres southwest of Mladá Boleslav and 21 kilometres north of Prague. In 1986, Sojovice was merged with Skorkov, but this lasted only until 1999, when Sojovice became a separate municipality again. The village stands on the left bank of the Jizera River, where it flows gently before merging with the Elbe River. The village is a peaceful place, with no bustling city life. As you wander through the village, you can nearly picture Sovojovice a centuries ago. Walk towards the Jizera River, where the water flows gently, imagining the people from the medieval ages, perhaps some descendants of Sovoja, washing their clothes there. The Jizera River is as much a part of Sojovice today as it was centuries ago.
