But the Group Areas Act designated the area for Coloured residents. This led to the forced removal of Black residents. Many were relocated to townships like Nyanga Gugulethu and Langa. It tore families apart destroying communities. The pain of that displacement still affects Kensington today.

They controlled territories and traded in illegal substances.
