It’s a symbol of Cologne’s resilience. In the 1980s, it faced demolition. Hans Wallpott, president of the Bürgergarde blau-gold, a traditional carnival corps, recognized its value. He rallied support, and together, they saved this architectural gem. Today, the Blau-Gold-Turm serves as the Bürgergarde’s clubhouse. It houses the “Ehrenfelder Justitia”, a sandstone sculpture from Ehrenfeld’s old town hall. This symbolizes the tower’s connection to the community’s history. The Bürgergarde not only saved the tower, they own it through a lease until 2085. They continue to maintain and preserve this unique piece of Cologne’s industrial heritage.
