Misato’s story begins long ago. Its roots trace back to the mid-3rd century AD. Officially, it was recorded then. The area became the villages of Hikonari, Waseda, Togasaki, and Yagisato in 1889.
In 1933, Togasaki and Yagisato joined. They formed Towa village. Later, in 1956, Hikonari, Waseda, and Towa merged. This created Misato village. Misato then gained town status in 1964. Finally, Misato was elevated to city status in 1972.
