The Kjolen Sculpture is by KG Bejeark. He was a well-known Swedish abstract sculptor. He created this work and several others in the 1970s. This was after he abandoned his abstract style.
But this wasn’t an easy journey for the Kjolen Sculpture. Bejeark faced some hurdles displaying his art. His first attempt to install it in Hasse Alfredson’s birth town failed. Another attempt in Malmö, his hometown, also proved unsuccessful. Hasse Alfredson was a Swedish comedian and actor. The worker is modeled after him.
Stockholm eventually accepted the proposal. The Kjolen Sculpture was installed at Nybroplan near the park. That’s why the sign said “Parkförvaltningens” or “Park administration.”
The Kjolen Sculpture faced another challenge in 2010. It was removed due to a new tram line. But like a phoenix from the ashes, it rose again. A year later, it found its current home near Slussen.
The Kjolen Sculpture is freely available to see. Passersby often miss this hidden piece of art. Most people walk by without a second glance. Those who do notice an old-styled man with a flat cap. He is coming out of a manhole behind a cordoned-off yellow-white bucks.
