A town-garden dream emerged here. Dąbrowa Leśna arose as a suburban settlement in the interwar period.
Dąbrowa Leśna is located between Warsaw and Łomianki. It has been part of Łomianki since 1990.
In 1930, a plan was drawn up for the estate’s plots. Almost all were sold by 1938. But only 44 houses were built before the war. This included summer houses. The railway line to Palmiry aided the settlement’s development.
On September 19 1939, a famous charge took place. It was between Dąbrowa and Wólka Węglowa. The 14th Jazłowiecki Uhlan Regiment broke through German encirclement. This was around Warsaw. Subsequent units of the Poznań and Pomeranian Armies entered Warsaw. They used the gap. The victory cost the lives of 105 Uhlans. They are buried in the Kiełpin cemetery. The forest road leading west is now Jazłowiecki Uhlans Avenue.
West of Dąbrowa, near Łużowa Góra, Army Krajowa units gathered. This was before attacking the Bielany airport on August 1 1944. Łużowa Góra is one of the highest points in the forest. It is 103 meters above sea level.
After the war, the settlement grew rapidly. This especially occurred after bus connections to Warsaw. Dąbrowa Leśna was incorporated into Łomianki in 1990. The Roman Catholic parish of St. Mark the Evangelist was established in 1995. A new church is being built on Długa Street.
Near the Zachodnia and Szpitalna streets crossing lies a fenced area. This is the former Evangelical cemetery. It testifies to early Evangelical settlers near Łomianki.
West of Dąbrowa Leśna in the forest are the remains of the Atomic Command Center. This abandoned military site was built during the communist era. Construction began in 1962 and continued until the 1980s. One building served as barracks. Two others are underground command bunkers. They have two or three levels. In 2004, the entire complex was transferred to the National Park. It is known as “Complex 7215.”
Today Dąbrowa Leśna is a vibrant part of Łomianki. It blends its historical roots with modern life. Its story echoes through the streets. It also echoes in the surrounding Kampinos Forest. From its town-garden beginnings to wartime events. From post-war growth to its present-day identity. Dąbrowa Leśna remains a place of historical and natural significance.
