In 1976, a seemingly unremarkable office opened in Warsaw. This was the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) representative office, a precursor to the Embassy of Palestine. The Embassy of Palestine in Warsaw stands as a symbol of the enduring relationship between Poland and the Palestinian people. This relationship solidified in 1982 when formal diplomatic ties were established between Poland and the PLO. This marked a significant moment, elevating the PLO’s Warsaw office to a full diplomatic mission. The head of the mission was granted ambassadorial status. Fast forward to 1988, Poland recognized the Palestinian Declaration of Independence. This further cemented the relationship. The PLO’s office in Warsaw was officially designated as the Embassy of Palestine, reflecting Poland’s acknowledgement of Palestinian statehood. The Embassy of Palestine is located at ul. Staroscinska 1 m. 7, 02-516 Warszawa. You can reach them at (+48) 22 849 77 72 or via email at info@palestine.pl. Their office hours are typically from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. However, it’s always best to contact the embassy before visiting to confirm their current hours and any appointment requirements. The current ambassador is Mr. Azmi Al-Daqqa. He plays a crucial role in promoting Palestinian interests in Poland, facilitating development and cultural exchange, and serving as a liaison with the Polish press. Poland’s relationship with Palestine extends beyond the political. Poland has consistently supported the Palestinian people’s right to self-governance and their pursuit of an independent state. This support manifests in various ways, from development aid to humanitarian assistance for Palestinian refugees through UNRWA. Poland has even played a role in training Palestinian diplomats, police officers, and border guards. The Embassy of Palestine in Warsaw is not just a building. It’s a testament to Poland’s enduring commitment to the Palestinian cause and a symbol of hope for a peaceful future.
