The Temple of Divine Providence commemorates pivotal moments in Polish history. Events like the Constitution of May 3 1791 and the rebirth of independence in 1989 are celebrated here. The pastoral ministry of Stefan Wyszynski and the papacy of John Paul II are also honored. This is a votive church celebrating 1000 years of Christianity in Poland.
The Temple’s story begins centuries ago. King Stanislaw August Poniatowski first envisioned it in the 18th century. He and his brother laid the cornerstone in 1792. Sadly the Russian invasion halted construction. The project lay dormant for generations. Following Poland’s regained independence in 1918 renewed efforts began. But World War II intervened. The communist regime that followed also refused to build the Temple of Divine Providence.
It was only after the fall of communism that the dream was revived. John Paul II blessed the cornerstone in 1999. He provided significant financial support. The architects Wojciech and Lech Szymborski designed the final structure. Private donations supplemented state funding. The Temple of Divine Providence finally opened in 2016. President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Beata Szydlo attended the ceremony.

Important figures in Polish history including former presidents in exile are buried here. There’s also a museum dedicated to Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski.
