Gazing up at the Lam Tin Complex, can you imagine this modern structure housing a treasure trove of stories? The Lam Tin Public Library, nestled within this complex on Hing Tin Street, is more than just a building. It’s a testament to the community’s thirst for knowledge. The library first opened its doors back in 1984, a much smaller space located underground in Tak Tin Estate. It served the community diligently, initially with around 18,000 books. Later, a temporary branch opened in Tak Tin Estate. But the Lam Tin community needed more.
The old library, though cherished, was bursting at the seams with around 70,000 items. It was clear a new space was needed. This led to the grand opening of the current Lam Tin Public Library on March 30, 2013. The new library boasts a spacious 2,900 square meters. It’s a significant upgrade from its humble beginnings. Now residing on the fifth and sixth floors of the Lam Tin Complex, the library offers a wide array of resources.

There’s also a Multimedia Library, a Computer and Information Centre, and even a Coffee Corner. Need a quiet place to study? The Students’ Study Room offers a focused environment with over 200 seats. For parents with little ones, there’s a Babycare Room available. The Lam Tin Public Library opened with approximately 140,000 items, including books, CDs, and periodicals. The library caters to a variety of interests. It’s truly a hub for learning and exploration.
But the Lam Tin Public Library is more than just a repository of books. It’s a vibrant community space. It hosts various extension activities. From storytelling sessions for children to informative workshops for adults, there’s always something happening. The library also hosts exhibitions.
