The bones were removed and brought here to Sant’Ariano, resting peacefully in the island’s ossuary. The island is now abandoned, and the bones are gone, but the wall still stands as a reminder of the island’s past. It was said that the island was cursed. Not because of the dead, but because of the snakes. People believe that hundreds of vipers still call this island home. The entrance to Sant’Ariano is walled, deterring intruders, and protecting the snake’s sanctuary. The island is a reminder that even in death, there is beauty and mystery.
