Wow Julius West Middle School has quite a history. Did you know this school stands on land once farmed by Mr Julius West himself? A local farmer and education benefactor. He lived in a small farmhouse near what is now West Rockville Elementary School. His farm included the area known as West End Park and the current school site.
This isn’t just any middle school. It’s a place steeped in history. After Mr West’s death in 1860 most of his farm was given to Rockville Academy. His will created a perpetual fund for education from the farm’s sale proceeds.
Julius West Middle School wasn’t always a middle school though. It started as West Rockville Junior High in 1963. The name changed to honor Mr West. The school became a middle school in 1978. Think about that. Generations of students have walked these halls. They learned and grew right here.
The school’s library is a hub of activity. It’s open from 7:55 am to 3:15 pm each day. Students need passes to visit during school hours. They can check out books for two weeks. Renewals are possible unless another student wants the book. There’s no limit to the number of books they can borrow. Overdue notices are emailed every Tuesday.
