“The Dobson Loop track is a classic. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk it?”
Puffer Saddle is nestled amongst the Wellington hills. Right here, in front of you, is one of the key locations on the Dobson Loop track. It is a saddle between the hills and is the highest point on this loop track. It is the first challenge after you leave the road. This location is a popular starting point for hikers. They often start their journey here and head downwards towards the river valley.
As you stand here, you may be reminded of the history of this place, which has been used by people for centuries. The saddle was previously used as a route by Maori people for many generations before the arrival of Europeans. It was just a rough track then. The track was developed further, and there was a little hut built at the top of the saddle to help with the climb. Unfortunately, the hut is no longer standing.
