Imagine a place where free thought meets media power. That place is the Agora. Right here in Warsaw. It’s more than just a building. It is a symbol of Poland’s transformation. Agora is a major media company. It all began with Gazeta Wyborcza.

Gazeta Wyborcza emerged in 1989. It was on the eve of Poland’s first free elections. This newspaper became the first independent voice in Poland. From that pivotal moment, Agora grew. It became one of Poland’s largest media groups. Since 1999, Agora has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The company’s reach extends far beyond newspapers. Its activities include advertising, cinemas, radio, and various online services. They also deal with magazines and books.

Agora’s flagship is Gazeta Wyborcza. In 2012, it was Poland’s largest daily newspaper. It had 3.48 million readers. The paper sold 257000 copies per day that year. Wyborcza combines national news with regional pages. It also offers thematic supplements. In 2012, advertising sales reached PLN 202.9 million. Its share in the newspaper advertising market was 36.5%.

Agora publishes a free newspaper called Metro. It is the third most read daily in Poland. In 2012, Metro distributed 348000 copies. These were spread across 18 Polish cities. Metro is the only free nationwide daily newspaper on the Polish market.

Outdoor advertising is another part of Agora’s business. This is done through its subsidiary AMS. AMS is a leading player in out-of-home advertising. In 2012, AMS’s advertising sales reached PLN 162.1 million. Its share in the outdoor advertising market was almost 30%.

Cinema lovers might recognize Helios. Agora owns a majority stake in Helios. It is the second largest cinema operator in Poland. Helios was established in 1993. It operates 31 cinemas in Poland. This includes 30 multiplexes and one traditional cinema. As of 2012, Helios cinemas offered 166 screens. There were almost 356000 seats.

The digital world is also Agora’s domain. It owns dozens of themed online services. These belong to the Gazeta.pl group. Gazeta.pl, Wyborcza.pl, and Sport.pl are among them. Agora offers internet film series and content via mobile technology. Online advertising service agencies include GlossyMedia.pl and SearchLab.pl. In 2012, Gazeta.pl Group’s Internet services reached 11.4 million users. This made it the third biggest portal in Poland.

Radio waves carry Agora’s voice too. The company owns local radio stations. These operate under the brands Złote Przeboje and Rock Radio. TOK FM is a regional news station. Tuba is an Internet radio platform. Tuba FM was the first in Poland. It allowed users to create and share radio channels.

Publishing is another key activity. Agora publishes several color magazines. These cover shopping, interior design, and lifestyle issues. Combined paid circulation of Agora’s monthlies in 2012 was over 875000 copies.

Beyond publishing, Agora ventures into film. They co-produce and distribute large-screen films. They also co-produce cultural events. This includes Woody Allen’s concert in Warsaw.

In 2004, the Agora Foundation was founded. This public benefit organization supports social campaigns. These are initiated by Gazeta Wyborcza. The foundation is funded by annual fundraising.

Since 2007, Agora SA has released musical albums. They come from artists like Kayah and Edyta Górniak. Agora releases albums formally as books. This is due to VAT differences in Poland.

Agora S.A. aims to be among the top 3 largest Polish media companies. They reach millions with important content. They have been operating for over 30 years.

The Agora stands as a testament to Poland’s journey. It is from a communist state to a free and open society. Here, media isn’t just about news. It is about shaping the future. It is about empowering voices and fostering dialogue. Take a moment to appreciate this place. It represents the power of independent media in a democratic society.
