This was the reality of Mount Vernon Woods Park. But a vision emerged. A master plan conceived in 2015. It dreamt of a revitalized Mount Vernon Woods Park. A park brimming with new life.
Mount Vernon Woods Park sits in Hybla Valley. This neighborhood park needed an upgrade. The Fairfax County Park Authority agreed. They secured $2.5 million from the 2020 park bond. The funds would breathe new life into this underutilized space.
The transformation began with design work. Public meetings were held. The community’s input shaped the final designs. These designs largely followed the 2015 master plan. The plan aimed to create a more active and family-friendly environment. Closer to Fielding Street.
The first phase of construction started in June 2024. DeBorn Construction was the chosen contractor. This phase included the construction of a new parking lot. A shelter for picnics was also planned.
