All Saints Anglican Church boasts a rich legacy. It was built on land gifted by Reverend Samuel Marsden. This remarkable man was Australia’s first assistant chaplain. He left 200 pounds in his will for its construction. The foundation stone was laid in 1846. Eight years after Marsden’s death.

Construction was completed in 1847. Bishop Broughton of Sydney consecrated it in 1848. The church quickly proved too small. It was expanded in 1862. A steeple was added enhancing its majestic beauty.

All Saints is known for its magnificent stained-glass windows. These are considered some of the finest in Australia. One main window honors Reverend Robert Forrest. He was the first headmaster of King’s School Parramatta and an assistant minister. Another impressive window depicts the Ascension of our Lord. This was a gift from parishioners. It commemorates the church’s pioneers.

The church also has a full octave of bells. These are rung in the traditional English fashion. Only 45 churches in Australia have such a ring. All Saints’ is one of the oldest. The ringing team practices weekly. Visitors are welcome to join their Wednesday evening practices.
