Because this area lacks dams, water from the CoCT Aquifer Pump Station and other boreholes is piped directly to the nearest treatment plants. The goal is to produce 50 million liters of water per day from these boreholes.
The City of Cape Town has invested heavily in these groundwater schemes. R390 million was invested in the previous financial year. A further R445 million was allocated for the 2024/25 financial year.
