This small chapel, tucked away from the city’s bustling streets, stands as a testament to a forgotten pilgrim’s path. We call it the Jeníkovská kaple, a name that echoes through time, whispering stories of faith and devotion. It’s one of the last remaining remnants of the Via Sancta, a centuries-old pilgrimage route that connected Prague to the sacred town of Stará Boleslav.

Imagine the scene: pilgrims on their knees, hearts filled with prayer, their eyes set on the distant shrine of Saint Wenceslas. The Jeníkovská kaple offered sanctuary in the journey, a place to rest, to reflect, to find solace. This little chapel, built in 1692, was once part of a chain of 44 chapels that lined the path. Each chapel was dedicated to a different aspect of the Virgin Mary’s life, a testament to the enduring power of Marian devotion.

The Jeníkovská kaple, like its companions along the pilgrimage route, was adorned with frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Saint Wenceslas, patron saint of Bohemia, and images of the Virgin Mary. These artistic treasures have long since faded into the mists of time, but their stories remain in the very stones of the chapel.

The Jeníkovská kaple survived thanks to the dedication of those who came before us, those who believed in the importance of preserving this sacred space. In the 1930s, a collection was organized to restore the chapel, a testament to the community’s deep-seated faith and appreciation of their shared heritage. Today, as we stand before the Jeníkovská kaple, we stand as witnesses to a timeless journey, a journey of faith and devotion that continues to resonate through the ages. The silent stones of this little chapel whisper stories of faith, resilience, and the enduring connection between humanity and the sacred.
