Yanase Junior High School’s story begins in a time of great change. It was 1951. A new school system was being established in Japan. On April 1st, Yanase Village established Yanase Junior High School within the existing Yanase Elementary School. The school officially opened its doors on April 23rd, 1951. A few years later, in 1955, village mergers led to the dissolution of Yanase Village. The area became part of Tokorozawa City. On May 1st, 1955, the school was renamed Tokorozawa City Yanase Junior High School. The school lunch program began on June 2nd, 1962. Over the years, Yanase Junior High School continued to grow and evolve. New buildings and facilities were added. In 1970, a gymnasium was built. A swimming pool (25m x 13m) was completed in 1974. In 1975, Yanase Junior High School was recognized for its excellent school environment greening efforts. In 1992, the school underwent major renovations and expansions. This included reinforcing the buildings against earthquakes. Yanase Junior High School celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008. Even today, Yanase Junior High School thrives. It continues its legacy of academic excellence and community engagement in Tokorozawa City.
