Tucked away in Millersville, Maryland, stands the Anchor Baptist Church. This unassuming building holds a rich history and a deep commitment to its community. Anchor Baptist Church began its journey not in Maryland, but in Washington Court House, Ohio, as a mission plant from Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church. On September 18, 2008, twenty-two souls gathered for the first service, planting the seed that would grow into Anchor Baptist Church. The congregation thrived under the guidance of its founding Pastor, Jeremy D. Griffith. By November 22, 2009, the church had blossomed to fifty-three members and officially chartered as an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church. Anchor Baptist Church continued to grow and evolve. In 2018, Dr. John W. Lewis became the pastor, ushering in a new chapter. A significant milestone occurred in 2019 with the completion of a new sanctuary, dedicated to the preaching of God’s word. The church’s mission extends beyond its walls. It strives to be a beacon of light, love, and a source of hope in the community. The church’s core beliefs are rooted in the New Testament, emphasizing the spread of the Gospel and the discipleship of believers. The church identifies as Baptist, Independent, Fundamental, and Conservative. They adhere to a literal interpretation of the King James Bible and uphold traditional practices. Their statement of faith covers a wide range of theological topics, from the Holy Scriptures and the Godhead to salvation, the church, and the second coming of Christ. Anchor Baptist Church maintains a strong commitment to missionary work, believing in the importance of sharing the Gospel worldwide.
