St. Thomas Morus was built between 1962 and 1963. The plans came from Cologne architect Fritz Schaller. Later in 1984, architect Klaus J. Küpper added a parish hall. It was designed as an octagon.

Notice the church’s unique shape. The square hall has a steep gable roof. It looks like a large tent. The steeple rises from the ground. It is shaped like a folded helmet. A single-story building connects the steeple to the rest of the church. This unique steeple really shapes the townscape. St. Thomas Morus is divided into two parts. There is a weekday church and a main nave. A large gable window sits in the gable. The triangle symbolizes the Trinity.

Inside St. Thomas Morus, Elmar Hillebrand’s artistry graces the space. He created the altars, tabernacle, and baptismal font. Seek out the Marian chapel in the tower’s ground floor. A Madonna from the early Gothic period resides there.

The St. Thomas Morus organ was built in 1966 by Johannes Klais Orgelbau. It was renovated in 2017. It has 19 registers with two manuals and pedals.

Four bronze bells ring from the steeple. Hans Hüesker cast them in 1969. He worked at the Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock bell foundry in Gescher. The bells have names. Raphael, Anna, Juliana, and Thomas Morus.

On August 20, 2023, St. Thomas Morus celebrated its 60th anniversary. It is part of the St. Stephan parish. The Sunday evening mass is very popular. It allows people to reflect on their weekend.

Under the unique tent gable of St. Thomas Morus, there is space for meditation. The parish wants to expand these services. They may rearrange the seating to create more space. St. Thomas Morus is also a center for childcare with local playgroups.
