Dreaming of a place where faith and community intertwine? That’s the Evangelisch-Lutherische Apostelgemeinde Gerbrunn. This church stands as a testament to Gerbrunn’s evolving religious landscape.

Let’s journey back to the 16th century. Picture Gerbrunn shortly after the Augsburg Religious Peace of 1555. The village embraced Protestantism under the rule of the Counts of Castell. However, this religious freedom was short-lived.

In 1625, the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg acquired Gerbrunn. Residents faced a difficult choice. They could convert to Catholicism, emigrate, or remain Protestant but abstain from any religious practice. Astonishingly, all 250 villagers chose to become Catholic. For two centuries, Gerbrunn remained predominantly Catholic.

Fast forward to 1829. The first Protestant newcomer arrived in Gerbrunn. A sign of changes to come. The real shift occurred in the early 1960s. A construction boom attracted numerous Protestant families. Initially, the Martin-Luther Gemeinde in Würzburg’s Frauenland oversaw Gerbrunn’s spiritual needs.

In 1966, a provisional church was built on Apostelweg. This marked a significant step for the growing Protestant community. In 1972, a kindergarten was added next door. The kindergarten moved to a new building on Setz in 2012.

The Evangelisch-Lutherische Apostelgemeinde Gerbrunn officially took shape on July 11, 1982. On this day, the Apostelkirche on Kopernikusstraße was consecrated. This marked a new era for the parish. Today, the independent parish of Gerbrunn also includes the congregations of Rottendorf and Würzburg-Frauenland.

Leading the Evangelisch-Lutherische Apostelgemeinde Gerbrunn today is Pfarrerin Julia Conrad. She can be contacted at Kopernikusstraße 10a. The church’s website provides a wealth of information about its activities.

The Evangelisch-Lutherische Apostelgemeinde Gerbrunn is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant community hub. It offers a range of services, events, and activities. These cater to diverse needs and interests. From religious services to community gatherings. The Apostelkirche plays a vital role in Gerbrunn.
