As you stand before the imposing structure of Statenice, its yellowed facade basking in the afternoon sun, you might wonder what secrets this grand house holds. Statenice, a Baroque gem nestled on the outskirts of Prague, was once a thriving estate and a testament to the region’s rich history. It played a pivotal role in the lives of countless people over centuries. It started as a humble property belonging to the Benedictine nuns of St. George in the 10th century. During the turbulent Hussite Wars, it passed through various hands until the 17th century, when it was owned by the powerful von Talmberg family.

Despite its grandeur, Statenice faced unfortunate events. During the Thirty Years’ War, it was ravaged by the Swedish and Saxon troops, leaving it in ruins. The von Talmberg family began to rebuild, transforming the ruins into a magnificent Baroque palace. The palace, however, never reached its anticipated glory. It was sold to the newly founded Diocese of Königgrätz, changing hands once again to the Benedictine nuns of St. George.

As you gaze at the palace, you can almost imagine the bustle of a bygone era: horses pulling carriage across the cobblestone courtyard, the aroma of freshly brewed beer wafting from the brewery, and the laughter of children playing in the garden. Today, only remnants of this grandeur remain, but Statenice’s history continues to echo through its weathered walls.

It’s difficult to imagine the fate of Statenice after it was sold to the Diocese. Its legacy as a bustling estate faded into history, and its once-proud gate now stands as a testament to its past grandeur. Today, it holds a silent beauty, offering a glimpse into the past of the region. Statenice is a poignant reminder of the ceaseless ebb and flow of time, a place where stories of power and adversity are etched in the very bricks and mortar of its structure.
