The modern Polícia Militar boasts over 82,500 officers, a fleet of 28 aircraft, two combat ships, and numerous vehicles. In 1970, the Força Pública combined with the Guarda Civil. This union formed the institution as we now know it, the Polícia Militar. This fusion brought together different traditions and expertise.
