A twelve-year-old girl’s vision. That’s what birthed the Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Nauczycielki Młodzieży. We stand before it now a testament to faith hope and perseverance.

This sanctuary in Warsaw’s Mokotów district specifically Siekierki wasn’t built overnight. It began with Władysława Fronczak’s reported visions of Mary and Jesus. These visions started on May 3 1943 and continued until September 15 1949. During a time of immense hardship in war-torn Warsaw Władysława’s visions offered solace and a message of hope.

Mary’s message wasn’t just comfort. She called for a renewed commitment to the Ten Commandments. She also requested a shrine be built right here in Siekierki. She identified herself as the Teacher of Youth.

Initially a small chapel was erected from rubble the remnants of a devastated city. This simple structure served as a focal point for growing numbers of faithful. They gathered to pray by a cherry tree the very spot where Władysława claimed to have her visions.

The small chapel expanded over time. Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński a pivotal figure in Polish history visited Siekierki several times. He pledged to build a larger shrine. While construction began later official Masses started only in January 1980. Father Edward Szajor a Piarist priest played a crucial role in the sanctuary’s development.

His efforts led to expansions. Plans were drawn up in 1984 by architect Janusz Tofil. The parish of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Confessors was established in 1988. Three years earlier a Piarist monastery was founded. Finally in 1994 Cardinal Józef Glemp consecrated the main church. In 1997 this church officially became the Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Nauczycielki Młodzieży.

Today the sanctuary boasts not only the main shrine but also the original 1946 chapel. A dedicated chapel houses the icon of Our Lady the Teacher of Youth. The sanctuary’s popularity as a pilgrimage site continues to grow plans are underway for further expansion. The Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Nauczycielki Młodzieży is more than just a building it’s a living testament to faith perseverance and the enduring power of hope. It’s a place where history and faith intertwine to offer peace and inspiration.
