When Piedmont sought a steady hand during the War of Independence in 1848, Cesare became its first constitutional Prime Minister. His tenure was short, yet his commitment to Italy’s unification never wavered. Look closer, in his hand rests his own “Le speranze d’Italia” – “The Hopes of Italy”. It’s a potent symbol, wouldn’t you say? Cesare died in 1853, but his vision for a unified Italy lived on.
