In 1912, Bridge Street was extended. This extension encroached on part of the Wesleyan Cemetery. A memorial plaque was erected. It recorded the names of people in the affected graves.

Many early Johnsonville settlers rest here too. They were residents and descendants. The Johnsonville Methodist Church once stood nearby. It was built in 1846. This church served the area of north Wellington. The Wesleyan Cemetery was at the rear of the church property. In 1970, the Methodist Church joined the Johnsonville Uniting Church. The land was sold. The church was demolished in 1973.
