“What is church? What is it to be a parish?” Archbishop Gordon’s questions still echo in this sacred space of St Anthony’s RC Church.
St Anthony’s RC Church stands as a beacon of faith in Petit Valley. It is a place where families seek union with God. This church, built 65 years ago on Morne Coco Road, is named after St Anthony of Padua.
Imagine the joyful sounds during the entrance procession. Parishioners voices were raised in song. Some even danced. The air was filled with anticipation for the liturgy.
In 2022, St Anthony’s RC Church celebrated its 65th anniversary. Due to Covid-19, the anniversary Mass was postponed. Renovations were completed before the service. Archbishop Jason Gordon re-blessed the church and congregation. He prayed that the re-blessing would be a sign of repentance and a remembrance of baptism.
The Archbishop reminded everyone of St Anthony’s love for scripture. St Anthony’s RC Church is seen as a space of deep conversion because of this. The celebration is about families being sanctified. People come to conversion here. Hearts are drawn closer to God.
The offertory is special at St Anthony’s RC Church. It includes sweet bread. This bread is synonymous with any St Anthony’s celebration. Food donations are collected for the Society of St Vincent de Paul.
