Originally, the main activities were rowing and swimming. These took place in the Tietê River. The river’s waters were clean then. Sunday dances were a highlight.
The construction of Marginal Tietê in 1953 changed things. The river receded. It moved away from the club. This was due to public works.
In 1931, Clube Esportivo da Penha embraced athletics. They created Volta da Penha. It is the second oldest race in Brazil.
