Established in 1962 North Albion Collegiate Institute opened its doors to serve the burgeoning Rexdale suburb. North Albion CI quickly gained a reputation for academic and athletic excellence. This continued through the 1980s. The school’s motto Virtus Officium Veritas Excellence Service Truth perfectly encapsulates its mission. The school crest itself is a visual representation of this. The Olympian torch symbolizes the pursuit of knowledge. The trees represent growth. The mountain ash with its white flowers and orange berries provides the school colors. A blue spruce forms the central triangle.

North Albion CI achieved notable milestones. It became the first school in North America to offer steel band as a full credit high school course. In 2006 it ranked among the top 25 schools in Ontario for Grade 10 literacy. This achievement put it ahead of other local schools like West Humber Collegiate Institute and Thistletown Collegiate Institute. One notable alumnus is Michael Adams after whom a scholarship is named covering a recipient’s first-year tuition.

The school’s history isn’t without its challenges. Sadly in 2014 a tragic stabbing incident occurred. Despite this North Albion has shown resilience. It continues to thrive as a hub of learning and community engagement. The school’s graduation rate rose significantly between 2000 and 2004 reaching 40%.
