Founded in 1985 the Santa Fe Art Institute has a rich history. It’s an independent arts organization. It fosters critical inquiry and cultural exchange. The Santa Fe Art Institute supports and amplifies dynamic artistic practices. These practices engage complex social issues. They inspire individual transformation and inform collective action. The Santa Fe Art Institute is located at 1600 St Michael’s Drive. It’s on the Midtown Campus formerly Santa Fe University of Art & Design. The Santa Fe Art Institute hosts international social justice themed residencies and fellowships. These are for diverse artists and creative practitioners. Public programs feature interactions with artists content experts and community changemakers. There are also exhibitions panel discussions and community art actions. Educational outreach is provided for adults and youth. The Santa Fe Art Institute is committed to supporting marginalized and underrepresented artists. It supports creative practices that offer fresh insight and innovative strategies. This is in response to critical local national and global issues. The Santa Fe Art Institute believes in artists and creative practitioners as catalysts for positive social change. In its 39 year history the Santa Fe Art Institute has hosted over 1200 residents. Over 400 were international residents. 200 were local residents. The Santa Fe Art Institute’s 2025 Community of Practice theme transcends geographical boundaries. It brings together shared values of critical inquiry and cultural exchange. SFAI alumni nominate creative practitioners to join the 2025 Community of Practice. They may also apply themselves.
