Did you know that Cidade da Criança in São Bernardo do Campo was once a film set? This wasn’t just any film set. It was the heart of Redenção a Brazilian soap opera. Imagine a bustling town built from scratch. A church a police station even a train station all created for the show. This incredible set later became the first theme park in Brazil and Latin America.

Cidade da Criança opened its gates in 1968. It was a place of wonder for children and families. They could explore a replica of the Amazon complete with a theater and a miniature Madeira-Mamoré Railroad.

The park housed a unique submarine attraction. With 2.75 million liters of water it was a marvel of its time. It was the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

The park’s popularity soared in the 70s and 80s. However competition from newer parks like Playcenter and Hopi Hari led to a decline. The Cidade da Criança closed in 2005. It reopened in 2010 after renovations. But the reopening wasn’t without its challenges. Many expected a completely new park. The reality was different. Only 18 attractions were ready for the grand reopening.

Sadly a tragic accident occurred in 2019. A woman died after falling from a children’s roller coaster. The incident highlighted safety concerns and led to investigations. The park’s history is a mix of joy and sorrow. It remains a significant part of São Bernardo do Campo’s cultural heritage.

Today Cidade da Criança continues to offer fun for families. It boasts more than 40 attractions including a cable car a Ferris wheel and a petting zoo. The city set from the Redenção soap opera remains. Children can explore the buildings and engage in interactive activities. The park is a testament to Brazil’s rich entertainment history. It is a place where generations of children have created lasting memories. The Cidade da Criança continues to evolve. It aims to recapture the magic of its heyday and keep delighting visitors for years to come. It’s a place where the echoes of laughter and the thrill of adventure intertwine. A true Brazilian treasure.
