“Looking for the eternal Gospel of God’s love?” That is what brought the Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia Central de Santo André to life. This church has a fascinating story. It is deeply rooted in the history of the Seventh-day Adventist movement in Brazil.
The Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia Central de Santo André’s story began in 1907. The Casa Publicadora Brasileira moved to the city. This is the publishing house of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Brazil. The employees founded the first church within the publisher’s facilities. It grew quickly.
Leaders decided to build a temple outside the publishing house. They wanted to welcome employees and others. These people had not yet heard the Adventist message. This initiative led to two new groups. One was in São Bernardo do Campo. The other was in Vila Curuçá, Santo André.
On January 5, 1957, the Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia Central de Santo André opened. It was located at Travessa Lourenço Rondinelli 63. It stands there to this day.
In 1985, the publishing house moved to Tatuí, SP. About 380 members moved with it. But the Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia Central de Santo André continued to grow. The church needed more space. A renovation was planned. On November 9, 1991, the church reopened. It had more physical space. It also had a new facade.
In September 2008, the Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia Central de Santo André underwent internal renovations. It was preparing for an evangelism series. The series was called “O Apocalipse É a Resposta”. Pastor Luiz Gonçalves led the series. It was broadcast on the Novo Tempo television channel. This channel is the Adventist television channel. It broadcast to all of South America.
Today the Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia Central de Santo André has 1,100 members. The church is aware of its challenges. Within two kilometers there is another Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia. The church supports evangelism in distant places. It remembers that thousands in the city still need to hear the Gospel.
