Whispers of faith echo through the halls of Reston Presbyterian Church. This church, nestled at the corner of Sunset Hills Road and Hunter Mill Road, has a story to tell. Reston Presbyterian Church began in the late 1970s. A small group envisioned a gospel-centered church in western Fairfax County. Reston, with its central location, became their chosen spot. In 1979, the congregation purchased the Kidwell property at the intersection of Hunter Mill and Sunset Hills Roads for $165,000. This site has housed the growing Reston Presbyterian Church ever since, witnessing countless services, Home Fellowship Groups, and moments of shared faith. The church belongs to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). Their motto is “In Essentials, Unity, In Non-Essentials, Liberty, In All Things, Charity.” Reston Presbyterian Church embraces four key tenets: Evangelical, Reformed, Presbyterian, and Gospel-centered. They hold the scriptures as the word of God and emphasize a personal relationship with Jesus. They adhere to the theological framework of the Protestant Reformation. They are governed by a system of elders, drawn from the model in the Old and New Testaments. Finally, they believe the Gospel message is for everyone, regardless of their faith journey. Today, Reston Presbyterian Church continues to thrive. Home Fellowship Groups play a vital role, offering opportunities for worship, prayer, sharing, and growth. These groups meet in various formats and locations, including online, in homes, and at the church itself. Reston Presbyterian Church also recognizes the need for renovation and renewal. Their capital campaign, “Renovating, Refining, and Reimagining RPC,” aims to address urgent facility needs and adapt to the changing community. Launched in December 2023, the campaign seeks to improve adult, youth, and children’s ministry areas. They also plan to implement ADA upgrades and enhance the sanctuary. The church hopes to create a space that better serves its members and the surrounding community. Reston Presbyterian Church’s journey reflects a commitment to faith and community. From its humble beginnings to its ongoing evolution, the church stands as a testament to the enduring power of belief.
