Didn’t expect that Gymea Miranda Uniting Church has such a rich and interesting history. This church stands as a testament to community spirit and faith. Gymea Miranda Uniting Church is located at 15-17 Central Road, Miranda. It welcomes everyone to its activities.
The church’s story began with the union of two congregations. In 1977 the Miranda Methodist Church and the Miranda Presbyterian Church joined together. This happened at the inauguration of the Uniting Church in Australia. The Methodist Church already occupied the Central Road buildings. The Presbyterian Church moved from Animbo Street to join them.
Two foundation stones mark significant moments in the church’s history. One stone commemorates Reverend W. A. Thompson. Mrs. W. A. Thompson unveiled it on February 11, 1961. Rev. T. P. McEvoy was the Interim Moderator. The other stone was set by J. A. Thompson Esq. on November 24, 1962. Rev Norman C King was the Superintendent Minister.
The Gymea Miranda Uniting Church has a mission. It aims to worship God. The church also wants to faithfully represent Jesus Christ. It does this by loving, caring, and welcoming all. They also reach out to the wider community.
The church offers worship services every Sunday at 9.30 am. All are welcome to attend. The current minister is Reverend Hye Kyoung Lee. She started around 2024.
Gymea Miranda Uniting Church acknowledges the First Nations People of Australia. It shows respect to the Dharawal people. They are the traditional custodians of the land.
The church also houses a special organ. Roger H. Pogson built the Miranda organ in 1966. It serves as a War Memorial.
