Victoria Drive Gospel Hall stands at the intersection of Victoria Drive and East 31st Avenue. Since 1909, this independent Christian assembly has been a fixture in East Vancouver. It resembles thousands of similar assemblies worldwide. They all uphold fundamental biblical doctrines.
The story of Victoria Drive Gospel Hall began earlier. The Cedar Cottage Assembly, established by the Seymour Street assembly, planted a new Gospel Hall in the Cedar Cottage area. Twenty-six people were in fellowship then. A larger hall was built on Welwyn Street for the Cedar Cottage assembly.
Over the years, the Cedar Cottage assembly thrived. They supported members in full-time service. C.S. Summers was commended to full-time service. Bruce and Rhoda Cumming were co-commended to Venezuela. John and Elizabeth Frith also went to Venezuela. Alice Broadhead later Thomson was co-commended to Venezuela as well.
The Cedar Cottage assembly grew significantly, reaching 175 members. They had a thriving Sunday School at Nanaimo Road Gospel Hall. That hall is still located on Nanaimo and 1st Ave.
Eventually, the assembly moved to its current location. It became known as Victoria Drive Gospel Hall. This move marked a new chapter. Some members later formed Carleton Gospel Hall. It was located at 45th and Tyne St. They had previously conducted Sunday School outreach there.
Victoria Drive Gospel Hall also supported international missions. Samuel and Elizabeth Simonyi-Gindele were co-commended to Zambia. This was done jointly with the Fredericton, NB assembly.
Today, Victoria Drive Gospel Hall continues its mission. It offers worship, prayer, and Bible teaching. They share the good news of God’s salvation. Services are held on Sundays at 11:45 am and 7:00 pm. Wednesday evenings also feature a program from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Victoria Drive Gospel Hall welcomes all. There is ample parking available in front and behind the building. They invite you to discover what they are all about.
This hall is more than just a building. It is a community. It is a place where people find answers to life’s questions. It is a place where faith and fellowship thrive. Remember the words, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” You can find this quoted in John 3:16.
