St Martins Anglican Church Killara. A cornerstone laid on May 18 1910. That’s the start of this beautiful church’s story. It stands proudly at 9B Arnold Street.
The Most Reverend John Charles Wright DD Archbishop of Sydney himself laid that stone. Imagine the ceremony. The hymns. The hopes for the future. This wasn’t just a building. It was a beacon of hope for the Killara community.
The church opened its doors on February 10 1911. A new chapter began then. Generations of families have worshipped within its walls. The church has become a cornerstone of Killara life. It wasn’t built in 1959 as one source suggests. It opened much earlier.
Interestingly the foundation stone inscription mentions something different. Another stone was laid on August 30 1959 by Archbishop Hugh Gough. Perhaps this marked a significant renovation or expansion. A new phase in the church’s long and rich history.
St Martins Killara hosts a variety of services. Traditional Anglican services are held on Sundays at 8am. There are also contemporary services including KidsChurch. A Chinese service is even offered. The church is welcoming to all. Regardless of their background or beliefs.
The church is easily accessible. It’s close to Killara railway station. There’s parking on Arnold Street too. The church is also easily located opposite tennis courts.
