Ever wondered where time stands still along the Saltsjöbanan? That place is Storängens station. Opened on July 1 1904, Storängens station has been a vital part of the community in Nacka.

Initially, during the Saltsjöbanan’s first eleven years trains didn’t stop here. But in 1904, Storängens station was introduced as a minor stop. Trains would call here once every hour. By May 18 1905 it evolved into a full-fledged station. It included a station building that also housed a post office and kiosk. The station building was designed by architect Gustaf Hugo Sandberg. He also designed the station buildings in Igelboda and Solsidan.

Storängens station played a crucial role in the development of the Storängen community. The Tjănstemănnens Egnahemsförening negotiated a fixed ticket price between Storängen and Stockholm. A yearly ticket cost 55 kronor for adults and 30 kronor for school children. This price remained until Storstockholms Lokaltrafik took over the Saltsjöbanan in 1969.

The community’s street network was cleverly designed. Roads like Järlavägen, Ängsvägen, Lindvägen and John Lodéns väg radiated from Storängens station. This layout provided easy access to almost every property. Double tracks were added towards Saltsjö-Duvnäs between 1911 and 1913. Storängens station is located 6.6 kilometers from Slussen.

Today, the station building remains. It stands as one of the best-preserved original station buildings along the Saltsjöbanan. Take a moment to appreciate this historical landmark. Think of the people who passed through Storängens station. Consider the changes it has witnessed over the years. Storängens station is more than just a place to catch a train. It’s a living piece of history. It connects us to the past. It reminds us of the community’s growth.
