From fields to forks, the journey of food has always captivated humanity. Here at the Wydział Technologii Żywności, Wydział Żywienia Człowieka, that journey unfolds in fascinating ways. This building, the Gmach imienia profesora Eugeniusza Pijanowskiego, houses a legacy of food science innovation. The Wydział Technologii Żywności, established in 1961, has a rich history intertwined with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. It actually evolved from the Department of Microbiology and Agricultural Industry within the Faculty of Agriculture. For decades, this department, under Professor Wacław Dąbrowski, nurtured future food scientists and conducted groundbreaking research. One of his students, Professor Eugeniusz Pijanowski, became a pioneer in food science in Poland and the first dean of the newly formed faculty. The Wydział Technologii Żywności even held a different name for a while – the Faculty of Food Sciences, from 2008 to 2019. Today, the faculty offers a bachelor’s program in Food Science – Technology and Nutrition, entirely in English. The program focuses on modern techniques, sustainable food systems, and balanced nutrition. Students engage in hands-on laboratory activities, delving into food chemistry, microbiology, human nutrition, and food safety. Graduates of the Wydział Technologii Żywności have a wide range of career paths open to them. They can pursue roles in food processing plants, quality management, research and development, or even diet planning and nutritional education. Here, within these walls, knowledge is cultivated, research is conducted, and future generations of food scientists are inspired. The Wydział Technologii Żywności, Wydział Żywienia Człowieka continues to shape the future of food, from farm to table.
