“Light on the highway.” That’s what the founders of Gymea Baptist Church wanted to be. This beacon stands in Kirrawee, a suburb of southern Sydney. Gymea Baptist Church has a history that stretches back to 1940.
The story of Gymea Baptist began with a Sunday School. It met in the home of John and Babs Turner. They even used their chicken sheds. In 1949, it officially became a Baptist church. The founding members desired to be a guiding light. For over 75 years, they have strived to fulfill that vision. The church’s story is a testament to God’s faithfulness. Gymea Baptist celebrates its past. It eagerly anticipates its future endeavors.
Gymea Baptist Church seeks to change lives through Jesus. The church invites everyone to follow Jesus. They extend this invitation in all their actions. Gymea Baptist wants to be a faith community. They aim to courageously embrace God’s invitation. This involves participating in His plan. The plan is to restore all things in Christ Jesus. This is done through the Holy Spirit.
Creating space for God’s work is important to Gymea Baptist. They value generosity. This applies to everything they do. Gymea Baptist is committed to curiosity and humility. They pursue these qualities in every aspect of life. Serving others and prioritizing their needs is a core value. The church strives to be consistent, safe, and calm.
Gymea Baptist believes in God’s creation. They believe everything reflected His goodness. They also believe that humanity’s actions brought death to creation. Despite this, God chose to redeem and restore all things. This plan is revealed in the Scriptures. It is shown through the history of Israel. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are central to their faith.
