In 1910, a spark ignited within Rehoboth Baptist Church, leading to the birth of Pilgrim Baptist Church. This wasn’t just any church. This was the dream of Brother George Bray and a dedicated group of followers. They envisioned a new spiritual home. In 1911, their dream solidified. Seventy-five souls gathered at Faith Chapel in Southwest Washington, officially establishing Pilgrim Baptist Church. Pilgrim Baptist Church has witnessed remarkable transformations throughout the years. The church relocated from Southwest to Northeast Washington. A devastating fire tested their faith, destroying their building. Yet, from the ashes, a new Pilgrim Baptist Church arose, grander and more resilient. This resilience earned it a fitting nickname: “The Miracle on I Street.” Pilgrim Baptist Church has seen five pastors throughout its history. This speaks to its stability and enduring presence. Currently, Reverend Louis B. Jones, II leads the congregation. He’s been guiding Pilgrim Baptist Church for over 26 years. While rooted in traditional Baptist worship, Pilgrim Baptist Church has embraced a blended style. This inclusive approach welcomes worshippers from all walks of life, united by their faith in Jesus Christ. At Pilgrim Baptist Church, there’s no strict dress code.
