Wow Gallery Underground what a journey it’s been. It all started in 2012. The Arlington Artists Alliance partnered with the Crystal City Business Improvement District and JBG Smith. They created this vibrant space. It quickly became a hub for established and emerging artists. Gallery Underground wasn’t just a gallery. It was a community. It hosted events like lunchtime painting sessions. Monthly Painting Uncorked classes were a popular draw. Even dance and musical performances graced its light-filled space.

The gallery’s location in the Crystal City Shops was ideal. It anchored the visual arts scene in Crystal City. The accessibility was excellent too. The Metro was close. Free parking was even available after 4 pm on weekdays and all day on Saturdays.

Remember those monthly rotating exhibitions? They showcased an incredible range of talent. Gallery Underground was more than a place to see art. It fostered connections and celebrated artistic expression. Its success is evident in its awards. It was voted “Best Art Gallery” in Arlington Magazine’s “Best of Arlington” survey. Washingtonian Magazine also recognized it as “Best Gallery Crystal City”.

But alas Gallery Underground is now permanently closed. It moved to a new location. You can still experience the Arlington Artists Alliance’s work. Visit their new gallery Alliance Gallery at The Crossing Clarendon. It’s at 2700 Clarendon Boulevard. It’s in the breezeway between Soul Cycle and Chip City.

The legacy of Gallery Underground lives on. It’s a reminder of the power of art. It’s a testament to the thriving artistic community in Arlington. Though the physical space is gone its spirit remains. It continues to inspire and connect artists and art lovers alike.
