Hidden beneath Na Skalce park lies a secret world. A labyrinth of World War I shelters rests silently below, a stark contrast to the tranquil beauty above. Na Skalce isn’t just a park; it’s a story etched in stone and shaped by time. Originally known as Eliščiny sady in 1881, Na Skalce changed hands and names like a fleeting whisper. Eduard rytíř Daubek gifted the park to Smíchov, and it became Sady princezny Alžběty. After 1918, it existed namelessly, a quiet testament to changing times. In 1925, it finally received the name it holds today: Na Skalce. Even during World War II, its name shifted to Mendelovy sady, only to return to Na Skalce after the war ended in 1945. This park, with its triangular shape bordered by Ostrovského, Kováků, Na Skalce, and Bieblova streets, measures a mere 38 meters wide at Ostrovského street and around 126 meters at Bieblova street, stretching 289 meters long. But within these boundaries lies a world of wonder. Sculptures stand as silent witnesses to countless moments. An altán offers shelter from the sun or rain. A waterfall cascades into a serene pond, its gentle music filling the air. Children’s laughter echoes through the playground. The name “Na Skalce” itself speaks to the rocky outcrops that define this space. Imagine strolling through the park, pausing to admire the art, the foliage, and the play of light on water. Feel the cool spray of the waterfall on your face. Hear the laughter of children playing. Na Skalce isn’t just a park. It is a living tapestry of history, nature, and human connection.
