What secrets does a town hold when its population plummets from 130 to a mere 32? Here in Möglingen, a town nestled in the Ludwigsburg district of Germany, whispers of such a drastic decline echo through time. Möglingen, first mentioned in 1275, has seen its share of turmoil. The Thirty Years’ War ravaged this town, leaving only 22 houses standing from the original 111. Imagine the devastation in 1634, the heart of the war, as families were torn apart and homes reduced to ashes. Möglingen, however, is a story of resilience. It was once a possession of the Counts Palatine of Tübingen, who eventually sold their stake to the House of Württemberg in 1308. This marked a shift in power and influence over Möglingen. The town became part of the Württemberg Oberamt Gröningen, then shifted between Oberamt Gröningen and Oberamt Ludwigsburg until finally settling within the Ludwigsburg district. The wars of succession brought further hardship. In 1693, French troops stormed through Möglingen, destroying 35 houses, including the town hall, a symbol of civic pride and community. Yet, Möglingen persevered. Today, Möglingen stands as a testament to the enduring human spirit. It’s a town steeped in history, a town that has witnessed dramatic changes and overcome adversity. It is a town that whispers stories of resilience and reminds us of the power of community in the face of hardship.
