The cornerstone whispers of a past. The Chiesa Maria Regina del Mondo stands before you. Its story begins not in grand architectural plans but in the aftermath of conflict. Following World War II a refugee camp for Istrian exiles was established in Villa Opicina. This temporary settlement blossomed into a residential area. A church became a necessity.

Architect Danilo Mattiussi designed this beautiful building. Dedicated to Mary Queen of the World it was blessed in 1958 by Bishop Antonio Santin. This was a significant moment. It marked a new beginning for the community. The church’s consecration followed in 1978. Bishop Lorenzo Bellomi presided over the ceremony.

Years later in 1966 Villa Carsia a section of the parish of St Bartholomew in Opicina became an independent parish. This was named after the church which then became its heart. Independent activity began on December 4 1966. Civil recognition came later in 1971. The church serves a vibrant community of over 3600 people.

More than just a place of worship Chiesa Maria Regina del Mondo stands as a testament to resilience and faith. It reflects the experiences of the Istrian refugees who found solace and community in this place. It reflects the dedication and work of many who built it and continue to maintain it. The church is much more than bricks and mortar. It is a living symbol of hope.

Today this beautiful church continues to serve the community. It is a testament to the faith and spirit of the people who built it. Feel the spirit of this special place. Reflect on the human story its stones silently tell.
