The Jáma Thinnfeld, once teeming with miners, now stands as a silent sentinel. It was a coal mine that plunged deep beneath the earth, reaching 286 meters down, a testament to the region’s rich, black past. Imagine the sweat and toil of the miners who descended into its depths, their tools clattering in the dim light, as they extracted the precious black gold.

The Jáma Thinnfeld was a technological marvel. In the era of steam power, it boasted the first electric winding engine in the Kladno region. The Siemens-Halske machine, an innovative piece of engineering, propelled the mine to new heights. Think of the clanging machinery as the electric currents surged through the winding engine’s circuits, powering the hoist that transported miners and coal up and down the shaft.

After the mine’s closing in 1913, the winding engine was relocated to the nearby Kübeck mine. Today, only a few remnants of the machine remain. But even in its absence, the Jáma Thinnfeld holds a special place in local history. In the decades following its closure, the surrounding area flourished as a cable factory. A legacy of coal mining gave way to a new industrial age, a subtle reminder of the region’s ever-changing landscape.

Now, the open pit left by the Jáma Thinnfeld is a reminder of the past, filled with the echoes of the miners’ toil. As you stand here today, let your imagination take you back to the time when the Jáma Thinnfeld was in active operation, its presence a vibrant part of this industrious area. The coal mine, now part of the landscape, gives an intriguing insight into the history of Kladno.
