Step inside the Graevenitz-Museum. Discover the artistic legacy of Fritz von Graevenitz. This remarkable museum nestled in a Cavalier house in Stuttgart-West’s Solitude district near Gerlingen holds a captivating story.

The Graevenitz-Museum wasn’t always a museum. It’s housed in a building with deep roots. This Cavalier house is part of the Solitude Palace ensemble. Duke Carl Eugen built the palace in 1763. The von Graevenitz family lived here from 1906. Fritz von Graevenitz himself worked here. He was a sculptor and painter. From 1921 until his death in 1959 he created his art on a ‘workplace’ behind the house. This workplace included several studios and a barn. They housed his incredible works.

Sadly in the late 1960s the studios were demolished. This was due to structural issues. However Fritz’s wife Jutta von Graevenitz had a vision. She wanted to preserve his legacy. She wanted to share his art. Jutta founded the Graevenitz-Museum in 1971. This ensured his remarkable works remained on display in his beloved Solitude setting.

The museum showcases a selection of Fritz von Graevenitz’s artistic creations. His works highlight his remarkable talent and skill. His life’s work is preserved here. Jutta von Graevenitz’s dedication to her husband’s art is evident. It’s a testament to their enduring legacy. The museum stands as a tribute. It’s a reminder of Fritz’s life and work in this very spot.

The Graevenitz-Museum opens its doors every Sunday. You can explore this gem from 12 pm to 6 pm. Guided tours are available by appointment. Your visit helps support the museum’s continued existence. It is a small price to pay for preserving this unique piece of Stuttgart’s artistic heritage. So explore the Graevenitz-Museum. Experience the artistry and history within.
