Imagine the factory workers streaming in. It is early morning at Fabryka Wyrobów Precyzyjnych VIS. Today, only the Wieża Ciśnień Fabryki Wyrobów Precyzyjnych VIS remains. It stands as a silent witness to a bygone era.

This water tower served the Zakłady VIS. The Zakłady VIS were once a sprawling industrial complex. It played a pivotal role in Warsaw’s manufacturing history.

The decision to construct the factory was made in 1900. The “Towarzystwo Fabryki Maszyn Gerlach i Pulst” decided to expand. They moved the factory from Srebrna Street to Dworska Street. Dworska Street is now Kasprzaka Street. This new factory was very modern. It produced machine tools and hydraulic presses. It also provided complete workshop equipment for factories and steel mills.

After Poland regained independence, the factory was nationalized. It became the Państwowa Fabryka Karabinów. This was part of the State Armament Works. Here, they produced several types of infantry rifles. They also made serial machine guns. In the 1930s, civilian production began. This included typewriters under a French license.

After World War II, the factory changed its name. It became Fabryka Wyrobów Precyzyjnych im. Gen. Świerczewskiego. Ownership transformations occurred at the turn of the 21st century. This led to VIS Spółka z o.o. It produced measuring instruments and cutting tools.

Construction of the Wieża Ciśnień Fabryki Wyrobów Precyzyjnych VIS dates back to after 1920. It was part of the Państwowa Fabryka Karabinów complex. During the war, the tower suffered only minor damage. The rest of the factory did not fare so well. After the war, Fabryka Wyrobów Precyzyjnych im. Gen. Karola Świerczewskiego “Waltera” arose. With the reconstruction, the water tower gained an additional floor.

In 2018, the factory buildings were demolished. The exception was the Wieża Ciśnień Fabryki Wyrobów Precyzyjnych VIS. A residential estate now stands where the factory once thrived. The tower serves as a landmark. It reminds us of the industrial heritage of this area.

The Wieża Ciśnień Fabryki Wyrobów Precyzyjnych VIS stands tall. It connects the past with the present. It is a monument to the industrial spirit of Warsaw. It is a reminder of the people who worked here. They shaped the city’s landscape and history.
