The Pak Kong Treatment Works plays a crucial role. It ensures that the water we use every day meets the highest standards. This facility contributes significantly to public health and sanitation. It supports the needs of our growing population.
The Pak Kong Treatment Works began its service in 1989. Stage I of the works had a capacity of 273000 cubic meters per day. By 1992, Stage II was completed. This expansion brought the total capacity to 800000 cubic meters per day. At that time, it was the second largest water treatment works in Hong Kong.
Here at the Pak Kong Treatment Works, water undergoes several treatment processes. These processes ensure its safety before it reaches our taps. The water is filtered and disinfected. This removes harmful bacteria and viruses.
Interestingly, treated water from Pak Kong Treatment Works is blended. It is mixed with potable water converted from seawater. This blending takes place at the Tseung Kwan O Primary Fresh Water Service Reservoir. This combination ensures a consistent and reliable supply.
