Imagine young men walking these grounds since 1789. This is Georgetown Preparatory School. It is America’s oldest Catholic boarding and day school for young men. Georgetown Prep is the only Jesuit boarding school in the country.

Georgetown Preparatory School sits on 93 acres in North Bethesda Maryland. The school began when John Carroll the first bishop of Baltimore founded it. In 1919 Georgetown Prep moved from Georgetown University’s campus to this location. The school legally separated from the university in 1927.

Georgetown Preparatory School aims to form men of competence. It seeks to create men of conscience courage and compassion. The school wants men of faith. They should be men for others.

About 500 students attend Georgetown Preparatory School. Boarding students make up about 20% of the population. The tuition for day students is about $44725. Boarding students pay $73535.

Georgetown Prep offers many sports. Their teams are called the Hoyas. They have won many Interstate Athletic Conference Championships. In 2022 the Hoyas beat the St Alban Bulldogs 35 to 14.

The William V. Bidwill ’49 Stadium is on campus. Michael Bidwill a Georgetown Prep alumnus donated 8 million dollars for its construction. The stadium is named after Michael’s father Bill Bidwill. He owned the Arizona Cardinals. The field is named for Coach Jim Fegan and S.J. Aloysius Galvin.

Many notable people attended Georgetown Preparatory School. These include Neil Gorsuch a Supreme Court Justice. Jerome Powell the Chair of the Federal Reserve also went here. Brian Cashman General Manager of the New York Yankees is an alumnus too. Actor Dylan Baker attended Georgetown Prep.

The school has a rich history. Georgetown Preparatory School continues to educate young men. They learn in the Jesuit tradition. The Campus Center and Residence Building opened in 2022. It provides modern living for the resident population. This building includes communal kitchens and student lounges.
